BITEC reaffirms its leadership in driving sustainability in Thailand’s MICE industry by forming a strategic alliance with six prominent partners: SCGP, GC Youturn, Wake Up Waste, AltoTech, Banpu NEXT, and Scholars of Sustenance (SOS). Together, they are co-developing a comprehensive model for organizing low-carbon events — incorporating carbon emissions measurement, reduction, and offsetting practices. The initiative also includes the adoption of Real-Time Carbon Tracking Dashboard technology and carbon offsetting standards certified by Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO), aligning Thailand’s MICE industry with the global push toward environmental responsibility.
Ms. Jarupa Yindeemoh, General Manager – Venue Management & Services of Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC), stated that BITEC is committed to driving sustainable transformation in Thailand’s MICE sector (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions), grounded in the mission to operate as an environmentally responsible venue and to make Green MICE and Circular Economy principles a reality.
BITEC’s latest milestone includes a strategic collaboration with six “Green Partners”: SCG Packaging Public Company Limited (SCGP), PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC), Wake Up Waste, AltoTech Global Company Limited, Banpu NEXT Solar One Company Limited, and the Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) Foundation. This partnership aims to develop a fully integrated Carbon-Neutral Events model that aligns with TGO standards and promotes environmentally responsible practices across the industry.
Key Highlights from the Partnership Include:
- Real-Time Carbon Tracking Dashboard by AltoTech: Enables event organisers to monitor and analyze carbon emissions across Scopes 1–3 with post-event reporting to optimize future events.
- Waste Recycling and Upcycling: SCGP, GC Youturn and Wake Up Waste support waste management through recycling and upcycling of materials into new products, reducing unnecessary resource consumption.
- Solar Energy Adoption: Installation of solar panels in partnership with Banpu NEXT to power events with clean energy and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
- Food Waste Management: Collaborating with SOS to minimize food waste and redistribute surplus food to local communities.
- Certified Carbon Offsetting: Implementation of carbon offset projects verified by TGO.
These efforts have already delivered tangible outcomes. In 2024, BITEC recycled 62.8 tons of waste — a 59% increase from 26 tons in 2023. This includes 51.2 tons of paper, 5.7 tons of plastic bottles, and 5.9 tons of aluminum, leading to a reduction of over 116,497 kg of CO₂ equivalent emissions. BITEC has also hosted Thailand’s first certified carbon-neutral exhibition and plans to scale the use of carbon tracking systems across the MICE industry.
